Europe’s biggest annual imaging show

FOCUS ON IMAGING is Europe’s biggest annual imaging show, covering all your needs from image capture through to output and beyond. Whether you are a professional image maker or processor, a buyer of image making equipment or materials, a manufacturer or distributor of products or a keen hobbyist, a visit to FOCUS ON IMAGING is a must.

On the day

I arrived at the event for 11:45 after a long train journey from Reading, and as usual the hall was overflowing with stands, shows and mini seminars. All the big names were there from Nikon, Canon, Pocketwizard and Manfrotto so where to start was the hardest question.

With Nikon anouncing the D7100 I headed over to their stand where they were showing how they can do 3D imaging, demonstrating with a super model and the cover of hello magazine with Gary Barlow in 3D.

Lovegrove Consulting was there and demonstrating his light and portrait setup so how could I resist that show, and picking up one of his signed books “amazing” a must purchase for anyone.

InterFit was offering the chance to use their model to test out their lighting so up I went with my trusty OMD and snapped away. It was a two light setup with a stunning model and very impressed with the entry level lighting.

By the late afternoon it was time to start thinking about what I wanted to purchase and my budget to spend. I set myself £500 to spend and was looking at the 17mm f1.8 lens for the OMD which I managed to pick up for £325 (normally around £399) then on to listolight for a medium octobox retailing for £150 and I managed to grab a bargin price of £109. Lastly over to Thinktank Photo for a new camera strap for the OMD. I managed to pick up everything I was looking for including the Lovegrove book and a pocketwizard case for my TT5’s.

My only advice for next year is book a cheap hotel near the NEC and cover all you need to do over 2 days as you will struggle to get around in 1 day.
