All the Olympus ambassadors were invited to a lens preview day at the Image space in central London, for a hands on day with the new Olympus mZuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 pro lens.
There was no disappointment from the new lens, from an outstanding build quality to the performance it achieved. One of the areas that stood out for me is how close and fast this lens focused (50cm is what Olympus says is the closest distance for auto focusing) put this together with its still compact size compared to its competitors its a sure winner.
The lens felt nice and balanced on the Olympus OMD E-M1 (I had my silver version) and even without the battery grip on the camera it was still a nice balance although I would prefer to have the grip on for comfort with this lens.
We had a walk around the local market and as we took along our model for the day, Anna Zeller, everyone had the chance to do portraits and good old street photography on the day.
Its a must have lens and fits very nicely along side the 12-40mm f2.8. If you had the 2 its probably all you will need in your kit back and as a wedding photographer a must have. This now puts Olympus in very close competition with Nikon and Cannon and I can definatly see more and more photographers coming over to Olympus for this reason alone not to mention no more heavy and bulky bags over the shoulder.
